Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has challenged Jadon Sancho to increase his attacking output by taking more shots, amid speculation over the winger’s future and the team’s recent lack of cutting edge.
Enzo Maresca has urged Jadon Sancho to take more responsibility in front of goal after a prolonged barren spell, with the Chelsea winger last scoring in December. Sancho has managed just one assist and two shots on target in his past 18 appearances, ranking bottom among Chelsea's forwards across most attacking metrics.
While the club can back out of their loan agreement with Manchester United by paying a £5 million penalty, Maresca insists he still values Sancho and speaks to him daily. The head coach also used a recent cancelled day off — following a poor showing from senior players in a training match — to reinforce the club’s high standards. Maresca did, however, welcome the return of key forwards Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, and Nicolas Jackson ahead of the Tottenham clash, though Romeo Lavia remains a doubt due to a new knock.
