Todd Boehly has brushed off Chelsea fans’ protests as “par for the course” and declined to confirm whether the club’s ownership structure will remain the same next year, while also defending the club’s recruitment strategy.
Speaking at the Financial Times Business of Football Summit, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly downplayed recent fan protests against his and Clearlake Capital’s ownership, insisting that criticism is part of football ownership. He maintained that Chelsea are “trending in the right direction” despite ongoing frustrations from supporters.
Boehly also avoided giving a clear answer when asked about his long-term partnership with Clearlake, stating that “he can’t predict the future.” The American billionaire defended Chelsea’s recruitment policy, acknowledging the challenge of finding top strikers and emphasising the need for a “superstar captain” to lead the team. Additionally, he spoke about the importance of balancing short- and long-term squad planning while addressing Premier League rule changes limiting contract amortisation to five years.
Chelsea are next in action against Copenhagen in the Europa Conference League as they continue to push for a top-four Premier League finish.
