Chelsea have strengthened their UEFA Conference League squad by adding Cole Palmer, recalling Trevoh Chalobah, and signing Mathis Amougou, as UEFA’s squad registration limits force strategic adjustments.
Chelsea are preparing for their knockout stage in the UEFA Conference League with a revamped squad. In a bid to comply with UEFA’s regulation—which allows only three changes to the squad following the winter transfer window—the club has added three key players. Cole Palmer, who was sidelined during the league phase for load management after his involvement in Euro 2024 with England, has been reintroduced into the squad. Additionally, Chelsea recalled Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace to ensure defensive cover, while £12m deadline-day signing Mathis Amougou from Saint-Etienne has also been added.
These moves come at a time when injuries have limited the available options, with Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia, both currently struggling with fitness, remaining out of the squad. Moreover, the decision is partly driven by the fact that five out of the six players who departed in January were in the Conference League squad, meaning the club needed to trim the numbers down to a maximum of 23 registered players.
