Chelsea’s highly-rated centre-back Aaron Anselmino, who joined the club from Boca Juniors in a £15m deal last summer, is now the subject of a loan bid from Ligue 1 side Marseille. Roberto De Zerbi, Marseille’s manager, is keen to bolster his squad before the January transfer window closes and has identified Anselmino as a potential short-term addition. Anselmino was recalled by Chelsea from his loan at Boca Juniors earlier this month, but he is yet to feature in a matchday squad under Enzo Maresca. While Maresca has described the Argentine as a “top talent,” he has also stressed that the youngster needs time to settle into English football. Marseille currently sit second in Ligue 1, and under De Zerbi’s management, a loan move could offer Anselmino valuable playing time and experience in European football. However, Chelsea must now decide whether to allow the teenager to gain first-team minutes elsewhere or keep him at the club to continue his adaptation process.
