Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Filip Jorgensen is now the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, while forward Nicolas Jackson is set to be sidelined for six to eight weeks due to a serious hamstring injury.
In a decisive update from Chelsea, manager Enzo Maresca announced that 22-year-old Filip Jorgensen has been chosen as the first-choice goalkeeper, replacing Robert Sanchez following a string of high-profile errors by the latter. Maresca explained that using Jorgensen in the last Premier League game against West Ham was partly intended to allow Sanchez time to recover both mentally and physically. Although Sanchez was recalled for the FA Cup loss to Brighton, Maresca reiterated that the current goalkeeper of choice is Jorgensen, emphasising consistency in his selections.
The injury crisis continues to plague the attacking line as forward Nicolas Jackson has now been ruled out for six to eight weeks following a severe hamstring injury sustained against West Ham. This setback leaves Chelsea without a recognised number nine, especially since Marc Guiu, who replaced Jackson in that match, has also picked up a serious groin injury. To cover for these absences, Maresca is looking to rely on alternative options such as Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku, while also considering contributions from wingers Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke, and Tyrique George. With Chelsea currently fourth in the Premier League, these adjustments are critical as they prepare to face Brighton again in the league.
