Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has expressed his gratitude for the public backing he received from club director Jonathan Goldstein, while reaffirming his ambition to succeed this season despite recent struggles.
Maresca has come under pressure following a poor run of form, with Chelsea picking up just nine points from their last nine Premier League games, dropping from second to sixth in the table. However, Chelsea director Jonathan Goldstein recently stated that Maresca is “100 per cent” safe in his job for the rest of the season, which the Italian coach has welcomed.
Speaking at a press conference, Maresca emphasised that he has always been clear about his ambition to win trophies and restore Chelsea to their former heights. He dismissed claims that he lacks ambition, instead pointing to key injuries as a major factor in the club’s recent dip in form. Maresca also defended his previous comments about Chelsea not being expected to qualify for the Champions League until next season, insisting that he remains focused on success.
Chelsea now face a crucial stretch of games as they attempt to regain form and stay in the race for Champions League qualification.
