The 17-year-old, who has been touted for his immense potential and impressive youth performances—including being the youngest South American to score in a World Cup qualifier—was initially expected to join Chelsea on a £17.2m deal after his 18th birthday. However, Chelsea's desire to help him settle into European football has prompted them to accelerate the process, signalling their long-term belief in his talent.
Paez has already made 70 appearances for his boyhood club, scoring 16 goals and providing six assists, and has caught the attention of several major European clubs.
