Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, through his company Cain International, has bought a 49% share in the Hundred franchise Trent Rockets for just under £40m, marking another strategic investment in the world of sports.
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has expanded his diverse sports portfolio by acquiring a 49% stake in the Trent Rockets, one of the franchises in The Hundred, for almost £40m. This deal values the entire franchise at around £79m, with the Nottinghamshire hosts retaining a 51% share. Boehly’s acquisition, made through Cain International—founded by him and British businessman Jonathan Goldstein—follows similar high-profile transactions in the competition, which have seen stakes in other Hundred teams sold for substantial sums. With previous deals totalling over £500m for seven franchises and an overall valuation of around £820m for the competition, this move underscores Boehly’s commitment to expanding his sports empire. Boehly, who became chairman of Chelsea after leading a consortium to buy the club for £4.25bn in May 2022, already holds stakes in various sports ventures, including the Los Angeles Dodgers and multiple other sports-related businesses under his conglomerate Eldridge Industries.
