As the January transfer window approaches, Chelsea is prepared to offload midfielders Cesare Casadei and Carney Chukwuemeka to streamline the squad. Cesare Casadei, who joined from Inter Milan in 2022 for £16 million, has made 11 Premier League appearances, all as a substitute, and has spent time on loan at Reading and Leicester City. Torino is reportedly interested in bringing the 21-year-old back to Serie A. Carney Chukwuemeka, signed from Aston Villa in 2022 with a £40 million release clause, has featured 32 times for Chelsea, scoring two goals. After missing a significant portion of last season due to a knee injury, he has played only five matches this season and has not been included in recent Premier League squads. Barcelona and other European clubs have shown long-term interest in Chukwuemeka. Chelsea's midfield currently boasts players like Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Romeo Lavia, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Renato Veiga, increasing competition for positions. Additionally, left-back Ben Chilwell may depart, as he is not part of manager Enzo Maresca's plans. Chelsea aims to strengthen their squad for a busy second half of the season, currently sitting fourth in the Premier League following a 2-0 defeat to Ipswich Town.
Potential Departures: Chelsea is open to selling Cesare Casadei and Carney Chukwuemeka in January to reduce squad size amid European interest.
Midfield Competition: The presence of established midfielders like Caicedo, Fernandez, and Lavia limits opportunities for Casadei and Chukwuemeka.
Chilwell's Uncertain Future: Left-back Ben Chilwell may also leave, as he is not in manager Enzo Maresca's current plans.More On This Story
